HOME Cindylou is a Sun Conure Parrot. To this date she is two years old. Cindy was hand fed. This is to say that before she was borne her egg was place in an incubator and when she hatched she never saw her real parents and was hand fed her food formula. How Cindylou came to be. One day at work I was looking through a Bird Talk Magazine and saw a Sun Conure Parrot. I knew I just had to have one. Once home I spoke to Tina (my live in girlfriend about it and she was nervous since we were given a cockitiel that was mean and would bite any attempt to touch or place food in his cage. Needless to say he was not hand fed and was raised incorrectly. I finally got through to Tina and we began the hunt. We found a local pet store in Manchester, NH were we lived at the time in a run down slum level apartment. I met the store owner Mike and he showed me a Sun Conure but it was already sold and went on to tell me he could order one for me. Mike mentioned he has a local breeder that is expecting a new clutch very soon. Well, sure enough I placed my order and a couple of weeks later Mike called. I rushed to the store and was shown Cindylou (who at the time was nameless) and Mike had me wash my hands and play with her. Seeing Cinylou without all her feathers I still fell in love with her and asked Mike when I could take her home. Mike stated that she was not eating solid foods just yet and he thought it best that she get to know me first.. Well, after a couple of weeks of playing with her she began to come to me when I would show up at the store. Mike stated she really has taken to you I think its time for you to show her her new home. Well, he placed her in a carrying case and I began the drive home. Cindylou began crying sounds and I pulled the car over and spoke to her. I then placed her on my shoulder and brother did she enjoy the rest of the ride home. Once it came time for bed we chose to put her in the living room. Well, Cindylou just would not have that. We then tried the kitchen to no avail. So the only other place was with us in our bedroom.. Sure enough Cindylou went to sleep. Now I realized what was going on. Well, this was only the beginning. When I would eat she would eat my food. When I went to shave she would fly on my shoulder and watch me. Then came the time I would go to the bathroom and so would she. I wondered if I could get her to go in the toilet and sure enough before long she would make a movement down my arm and do her thing in the toilet. What a good little girl. Well after about six more months Tina and I elected to move out of the slums of Manchester NH and back to the Town of Hudson into a nice apartment. Well Cindylou began to chew on the Kitchen windows frame. This seemd to be a new behaivor pattern as she never did this before. Im not sure why she developed this chewing act as she liked seeing people and the cars in the parking lot not to mention the birds that would fly past the window and land on the power line. However just the same I placed Chicken wire over the entire area but cindylou being smart (actually) got through the chicken wire and nailed another corner. Now I was mad. Not only was Cindylou not obeying Tina while I was at work but she was taking advantage of my being gone and I figured enough was enough. So the next morning I chased her around the apartment clipping her wings. Well, Cindylous feeling sure were hurt when she realized she could no longer fly (as were my feelings) and I knew I would miss her flying around and showing off. Cindylou would what we call dive bomb Tina and I. She would fly as close as she could to our heads over and over again. Cindylou was angry at me now and took to Tina after this. I knew as much as I would miss her flying and her and I ruff housing (so to speak at my chair) that this was actually a good change over. After all one of the reason I got her and paid a high price was to get a pet that would keep Tina company while I worked. We hope to update this page often with new photos. These pictures were taken with a 35mm and an automatic. I expect better quality when I get a 3.3 digital. Also if you wish you can go to the about us page to see larger pictures to save. |
