The most common type of filter is the over the back model.
This is a good type of filiation system however when it comes to keeping larger fish such as the Blood parrot you may want to add a second over the back filter or a powerhead filter combo. I made my own powerhead filter combo and it works GREAT. Another kind of filter is the under gravel filter. If you use this kind of filter be aware that food does accumulate under the filter and this can cause water conditions to become poor. I have two over the back filters and the powerhead combo I mentioned as well as an under gravel filter. I also vacuum my tank from time to time. I don't find I have to do the vacuuming to often, however. :) If you have a large tank setup you may want to think about using a Canister Filtration system as these filters have a large ratio of filtration. |
